About Dr. Mauricio Valdes

Mauricio A. Valdes, M.D., is a board certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. He completed his orthopaedic residency and fellowship training in spine surgery at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He also specializes in orthopaedic trauma, a fellowship that he completed at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital.

Dr. Valdes focuses in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and pathology causing neck and back pain. Some examples include, but are not limited to, arthritis, disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, spinal deformities and scoliosis, tumor and infection. His treatments include steroid injections, minimally invasive and complex reconstructive spinal surgery. He also offers vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty and surgical treatment for complex spinal fractures.

Dr. Valdes’ research seeks to improve the biology of spinal fusions (used for surgical treatment of back and neck pain) by developing bone producing stem cell-based techniques that stabilize areas of the spine that are causing pain. Dr. Valdes is an art and travel enthusiast. Dr. Valdes is fluent in Spanish.
